Ya tenemos ganadores oficiales de la 72ª edición de los premios anuales del Outer Critics Circle. Some Like It Hot se llevó la mayoría de las categorías con cinco victorias, entre ellas la de Mejor Nuevo Musical. El espectáculo, actualmente en cartel en el Shubert Theatre de Broadway, era el segundo musical más nominado a los premios, por detrás de New York, New York. Esa producción, que se representa en el St. James, se llevó dos categorías, entre ellas Diseño escénico (Beowulf Boritt) y Coreografía (Susan Stroman).
Leopoldstadt es la obra de teatro que más categorías ha ganado esta temporada, con tres galardones, entre ellos el de Mejor Obra Nueva de Broadway. La reposición de Merrily We Roll Along del New York Theatre Workshop, que se representará en Broadway, fue otra de las ganadoras destacadas, con Jonathan Groff y Lindsay Mendez, respectivamente, como intérprete principal y protagonista de un musical fuera de Broadway.
Los premios de este año son los primeros en los que los Outer Critics utilizan categorías de interpretación recién reconstruidas. Las nuevas categorías neutrales en cuanto al género se han dividido en Broadway y Off-Broadway, mientras que en años anteriores se consideraban tanto Broadway como Off-Broadway dentro de las mismas categorías, tradicionalmente divididas por género.
La ceremonia de entrega de premios a los ganadores de este año se celebrará el 25 de mayo en el Auditorio Bruno Walter de la Biblioteca Pública de Artes Escénicas del Lincoln Center de Nueva York.
Como se anunció anteriormente, se concedió un Premio Especial a la Trayectoria al director de lucha B.H. Barry, en honor a una carrera de seis décadas, incluida la presente temporada de Camelot en el Teatro del Lincoln Center.
